Photography & Design: A Leap Year of Snap Creativity 49 “Mulitple Exposures: Creating Abstraction”

Softened Nature Winter's Wild Grass

Wild Grass Winter Abstract

Shutter Priority, f/14 @ 1/10 sec

Creative greetings to everyone!

Today I would like to share two renditions of the same subject. I shot these on an overcast, winter morning. The first capture is a softened abstract of winter’s wild grass. The second is the same subject, captured at a slightly different aperture, with a bit of post production contrast added. To create an more abstract effect, I employed multiple exposure for both images.

Photography & Design: A Leap Year of Snap Creativity 48 “Capture The Ambience”

Capture Ambience

Aperture Priority, f/5 @ 1/6 sec

Creative greetings everyone!

In my Creative Photography Workshops and Photo Tours, I emphasize “capturing the ambience”. I enjoy doing this without the use of flash whenever possible. I wanted to secure the mood evoking ambience of the image above…to do so, I kept the ISO at 100, opened my aperture wide, forcing a slow shutter of 1/6 sec, and employed a tripod for the low light situation. Today’s image is the result.

Feathers In Rear Curtain Sync 1

Shutter Priority, f/14 @ .50 sec

Creative greetings everyone!

Today I would like to share captures I created employing rear curtain sync with slow shutter. I set up for the composition, by simply placing a white board behind my feather subject and utilizing a small fan to produce constant movement. I then hung the feathers up near the fan. I enjoy rear curtain sync because it produces a “ghost” stream… and in this case, a softened effect which works well with the subject.

For Your Search

Aperture Priority, f/5.6 @ 1/30 sec

Creative greetings everyone!

I would like to share a bit of warm color and so I uploaded this multiple exposure of a candle I created last evening while out with friends. I enjoy applying the number 3 to my images. To me, 3 leaves the mind open to new possibilities…it’s looking for the 4th to complete it! I know deep…deep. lol

Photography & Design: A Leap Year of Snap Creativity 46 F “Split BW!”

Split BW!

Creative greetings everyone!

After a morning of shooting BW works, I was a bit hungry and cut a peach as a snack. Upon placing it on the plate, I remembered that beautiful light I was shooting just moments before. I took the opportunity to capture a “split BW” image. I welcomed the opportunity to capture a sharp black and white division, and employed part of the environment to assist me in that endeavor.

Photography & Design: A Leap Year Of Snap Creativity 46 E “Let That Beautiful Light In!”

Let That Beautiful Light In!

Aperture Priority, f/5.6 @ 1/200 sec

Creative greetings everyone!

I was about to close the blinds when I noticed in the small concentrated space on this subject, the most beautiful white to black tones, wrapping themselves around it. Considering I was shooting BW images today, I began to capture this light and moment in time. To add interest to this capture, I cut the cord and tied a small knot. I appreciate the clean lines of this minimalistic image.

Photography & Design: A Leap Year in Snap Creativity 46 D “Soft & Clean BW”

Soft & Clean BW

Aperture Priority, f/5.60 @ 1/30 sec

In contrast to the last post, this capture brings BW softness to the table. I took the minimalistic approach here. This is an image of a fragrance bottle, and to be a wee bit conceptual…I created it in soft BW, because the scent of the fragrance is beautifully soft and clean. I wanted this image to reflect that essence even if the viewer has not had the experience of knowing. I placed tracing paper over the light source to keep it soft within the frame and decrease the chance of highlight blowout on the silver top and glass bottom.

Photography & Design: A Leap Year of Snap Creativity 46 C “Reeling in Shape & Line”

Reeling In Shape & Line

Aperture Priority, f/5.6 @ 1/20 sec, ISO 400 for Grain

In my Creative Photography Workshops and Photos Tours, I emphasize the importance of employing the Elements of Design in compositions through the lens. One of the assignments we explore involves shape. This is a capture I created this morning employing shape…and line as well. I add grain…because I like the “coolness” of some BW images, which incorporate a grainy feel. I felt it enhanced this image…so I bumped it up a bit.

Photography & Design: A Leap Year in Snap Creativity 46 B “Cupcake Tray…POV!”

Cupcake Tray...POV!

Aperture Priority, f/5.6 @ 1/20 sec

Creative greetings and welcome to the second entry in today’s blog “46B”.

I was born to capture images and sometimes, once I initiate a photo shoot, I find it difficult to put the camera down and walk away! This morning I found myself in BW photography mode and it was just one of those sessions…

I created this image by positioning a cupcake tray on its side and focused direct center. I enjoyed creating this abstract rendition. In my Creative Photography Workshops and Photo Tours, I emphasize capturing avant-garde POVs. I have found some subjects are naturally intriguing. There are other subjects, I find myself working with a while, to capture the essence and create and unusual image.

Photography & Design: A Leap Year of Snap Creativity 46 A “BW…Why & Sneaky Bulb?”

Bulb in Lamp Behind BW

Aperture Priority, f/5 @ 1/90 sec

Creative greetings everyone!

Today I am going to share a series of BW I created this morning. I have entitled this post “46A”.

BW…Why? I enjoy creating BW images. I feel a mysterious attraction to the intrigue of BW images. I appreciated the sleek line of this lamp…so I elected to capture its essence. In order to decrease the highlight blowout factor, I removed the bulb from the front lamp, and kept the bulb in the back on. I lined up my POV and fired away. I captured this particular image in two shots. I also incorporated sidelighting for a more even light distribution throughout the frame.
